FSU Students and Staff Donate Supplies to Local Schools

The Division of Student Affairs at Fayetteville State University (FSU) is actively involved in providing initiatives and activities that strengthen the participation of students in volunteer activities.

For the past two academic years, the university has lead with the Smart Kids, Healthy Kids and Back-to-School-Campaign.  The purpose of the service initiative was to introduce and encourage freshmen to participate in volunteer activities in the local Fayetteville area.  Each freshman (new student) was asked to bring school supplies when they arrived at the university to be donated to selected area elementary schools.  The Fayetteville State University staff from various departments donated school supplies, backpacks, school uniforms and personal hygiene products. Approximately 325 students in the Cumberland County (Fayetteville) School System received items from this effort.

This volunteer effort has leveraged our students’ ability to have a greater impact on the community by serving as lunch buddies and story readers for participating schools.
