Elizabeth City State University (ECSU) continues to move forward in internationalizing its campus per the directives of UNC Tomorrow. ECSU is striving to equip its students with the twenty first century skills necessary to be successful in a globalized society. Study abroad is one example of ECSU’s commitment to developing cultural competency in its students.

In the fall of 2008, Torian Lee joined ECSU as the Coordinator of International Programs. With the support of the university administration, faculty, and staff at both ECSU and the UNC-Exchange Program (UNC-EP), ECSU is a now viable participant in study abroad.

This fall, ECSU sent three students to study at universities in Australia, Germany, and Mexico. In addition, two students from UNC system partner universities in Denmark and Germany are currently studying at ECSU. ECSU will continue to promote UNC-EP among its students and host foreign students from our  partner institutions. We will also collaborate with other universities in the UNC System to provide ECSU students with additional study abroad opportunities. Some of these opportunities include the International Student Exchange Program (ISEP) and existing bilateral agreements between UNC Schools and universities around the world.

This fall ECSU will launch the new Office of International Programs Website, the revitalization of the International Club, Global Leadership Academy activities, and a series of other intercultural events.
