Through a three-year $450K grant from the US Economic Development Administration (EDA) , Western Carolina is expanding and enhancing its ability to stimulate and support economic growth and job creation for the western North Carolina region and its extensions by providing assistance to regional entrepreneurs and firms to develop and launch innovative new products and services.
The grant to the Kimmel School Center for Rapid Product Realization brings about a cross campus collaboration that also includes the College of Business, Small Business and Technology Development Center (SBTDC) and Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation (CEI); and, the Office for Partnership Development – Millennial Initiative.
The collaborative effort will accelerate job creation and retention in existing enterprises as well as new startups through the commercialization of these products through a broad range of technical and business services that promote a dynamic and exciting business environment. These services, which will be delivered in conjunction with the Kimmel School concentration on project based learning, include technical engineering services of reverse engineering, rapid prototyping, quality testing and manufacturing as well as the critical marketing and business counseling needed for a successful offering launch.
