    Center for Design Innovation

The UNC Board of Governors established the Center for Design Innovation (CDI) in 2005 as an inter-institutional research center, to conduct programs involving design related to digital technologies. CDI is a response to findings of a Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy conducted for the Northwest Piedmont area of North Carolina. The goal is to mitigate the rapid disappearance of employment in the tobacco, textiles and furniture industries.

In addition to CDI’s founding schools – the UNC School of the Arts (UNCSA), Winston- Salem State University (WSSU), and Forsyth Technical Community College (FT) – CDI’s emerging project portfolio involves Wake Forest University and other education and business entities nationally and internationally.
