Am I Qualified for Alternative Licensure?

  1. Do you have a Bachelors degree?

      Yes—go to question #2

      No—NC TEACH requires a completed Bachelors degree for admission to the program. 


  1. Did you have at least a 2.5 grade point average in your undergraduate degree?

      Yes—go to question #3

      No—Did you have a 3.0 or better in your last 2 semesters of coursework or in 

              your major?

            Yes—go to question #3

            No—Do you have a Graduate degree or have you had at least 15 credit hours

                    since earning your Bachelors degree with at least a 3.0 gpa?

                  Yes—go to question #3

                  No—please contact an NC TEACH staff member for alternative options

                          to be considered.


  1. Do you demonstrate a commitment to students, their families, their communities, and the profession of teaching?

      Yes—go to question #4

      No—Perhaps you would like to spend time speaking with a teacher about what is expected  

              and required of the job. Please contact an NC TEACH II staff member for further advisement.


  1. Do you have at least 3 years of successful work experience?

      Yes—go to question #5

      No—Please contact an NC TEACH staff member for more information


  1. Do you have a criminal record?

      Yes—Please contact an NC TEACH staff member for more information.

      No—go to question #6     


  1. Are you a current first year lateral entry or emergency licensed teacher?

      Yes—You are already on your way to earning your license to teach and you are eligible for NC

               TEACH. Go to question #7

      No—go to question #7


  1. Do you have a degree in or a degree considered relevant to the licensure you are seeking, or 24 semester credit hours towards the licensure area you are interested in?

      Yes-You appear to be an excellent candidate for NC TEACH and we encourage you to complete an  

             application to NC TEACH (link to How to Apply section).

      No-It appears you may not meet the minimum requirements for NC TEACH at this time. If you 

            would like to discuss how you may meet these requirements in the future or possible alternative
