UNC Wide - Policies

University employment is divided into two major categories, based on their governing bodies:

SHRA employees are Subject to the North Carolina Human Resources Act. This includes most staff employees at the Universities as well as state agency employees. Policies for SHRA employees are governed by the State Human Resources Commission through the Office of State Human Resources.

In addition, there are certain policies that apply only to University SHRA employees, as approved by the State Human Resources Commission:

 

EHRA employes are Exempt from the North Carolina Human Resources Act. This includes the University faculty, senior academic and administrative officers at each institution, and other certain professional staff position in instructional, research, and public service positions. Policies for EHRA employees are governed by UNC Board of Governors through UNC General Administration.
