Performance Management Resources

The SHRA Performance Appraisal Policy is effective April 1, 2016. Eleven UNC institutions will launch the program for the 2016-2017 performance cycle. Seven UNC institutions will launch the program for the 2017-2018 performance cycle and are currently functioning under OSHR policy.

Below are some brief overviews on the program:

The following guides are designed to assist supervisors through the performance process, from setting expectations at the beginning of the cycle to writing evaluations at the end of the cycle. Further guidance can be provided by the campus central HR office.

SHRA: The SHRA Performance Appraisal Form is to be used for all SHRA employees in the UNC system. UNC institutions may customize the “look-and-feel” consistent with their branding but cannot alter the content. UNC institutions may create an equivalent electronic version (e.g., through PeopleAdmin).

EHRA: UNC General Administration does not require a particular format for EHRA non-faculty annual evaluations. Supervisors may issue an annual performance memo to each employee, or UNC institutions may adopt their own EHRA non-faculty evaluation format. The forms listed below complement the SHRA program structure and are purely optional. UNC institutions may choose whether or not to adopt or modify any of these for their use.

Below are sample performance plans and appraisals for various position types common on UNC campuses. Also included with each is an abbreviated position description to provide additional context for the assigned performance goals.
