Governor's Awards for Excellence

MEMORANDUM

DATE:            June 13, 2011

TO:                 All UNC General Administration

FROM:           William A. Fleming

                        Vice President for Human Resources

SUBJECT:     2011 Governor’s Award for Excellence

I am pleased to announce that nominations for the 2011 Governor’s Awards for Excellence are currently being accepted.  Many of you are aware of this long-standing program.  During these challenging times, it is more important than ever that we make the effort to identify and recognize individuals for outstanding accomplishments in their work.  The Governor’s Awards for Excellence program provides the opportunity to recognize those exemplary state employees whose service and contributions make a difference in the lives of North Carolinians.  This award is one of the highest honors an employee of the State of North Carolina can receive; it provides a tangible expression of appreciation for outstanding accomplishments achieved by performing above and beyond the call of duty.  There are exceptional people here, whose knowledge, skill, dedication, hard work and positive attitudes have helped to make the University of North Carolina General Administration the success that it is.

Nominees must be permanent state employees.  Both SPA and EPA employees are eligible.  Nominees should have made major contributions reflecting credit on themselves and state service.  An employee committee will screen the nominations and select the three strongest nominees for recognition. Nominees selected by the committee will be forwarded to the statewide committee for consideration for the Governor's Awards for Excellence.

To nominate someone, please complete the nomination form and attach a brief (1 to 2 pages) explanation of the nominee’s accomplishments and why you believe the nominee is deserving of recognition.  Attached to the nomination form you will find the nomination rules along with the descriptions of award categories.  All nominations must be forwarded to my attention in the Human Resources Division by no later than July 15, 2011.  If you would like additional information about the program, feel free to contact Robbie Snuggs at 843-6571.

Your nomination can help ensure that our deserving employees are recognized for the quality work accomplished for the citizens of North Carolina. Thank you for your support of the Governor’s Awards for Excellence Program.
